Initial Reflection Paper

Technology for teachers is a course that I hope will provide me with alternative ways of teaching in the classroom. I think that this class can help me help my students to understand that the computer can be used for more than just e-mail and games. I expect this class to show me great fun ways to making learning more interactive for my students.

I consider myself to be very knowledgeable about computers. I have a lot of experience with the internet of course, but I also have a lot of experience with PowerPoint and Microsoft Word. I’m not very skilled with Excel. So I would definitely want to learn more about that program. When it comes to technology in the classroom, I would have to say that I don’t know that much about the different programs that are used in today’s classrooms. There was a program that Mrs. Davis showed on Thursday that looked like a great way to display notes to the class while teaching. I can’t wait to learn more about that program because I have never seen it before and it looked vary helpful. I had also never heard of web logs before Thursday. But after creating my own and responding to the fifth graders post, I can see that it is a great and useful way to use technology in the classroom.

I would miss topics that show us how to use the technology in a fun and informative way for the students. But I’m not familiar with this course, so I really can’t say what topics I would miss if they weren’t covered. I guess I would miss anything that was important in improving my technology skills that can help my future students in learning.
Technology can be used in the classroom for so many different things. There are programs that help students learn how to read, some help them complete math problems, and etc. It’s a great tool that can step in and provide additional help for a student that may be struggling in a subject. Technology is a great tool for teachers in assisting them with teaching.

I think that technology should be used in every classroom throughout every grade level. I world has fast become a technology world. And I think in order to keep up with the times you have to become knowledgeable about computers and technology. What a better way to do so by teaching them young. Technology is also a great way to teach different material in the classroom. It provides an alternative way of teaching students. It can help the student interact with the lesson being taught.
